Only two left, with the parent bird feeding them from outside the box and only coming in to remove their waste. The remaining chicks have both gone to the hole flapping their wings madly but are not brave enough to go yet.
I’ve been checking through the day to see if I can capture the moment they leave, but they are still sitting tight!!
Four very hungry chicks being fed.
Our Head teacher is a keen twitcher and he says that this is not a Tree Sparrow but a House Sparrow. Can you confirm the ID for me??
Caroline Hedgehogs Class Teacher.
Yes, I think your Head Teacher could be spot on! Tree sparrows have black marks on their cheeks, what twitchers often call “dirty cheeks”. It’s not easy to tell right now, but it looks to me as though this sparrow has clean cheeks, which would make it a house sparrow.
We stand corrected! Now that our lovely IT technician Ross has sorted our server problems, we have a sparrow (?|Hedge sparrow, long tail) with chicks!!! Hedgehogs Class Year 1 We are very excited…
This is fantastic Lady J, I believe this is our first ever nest in the project that isn’t blue or great tits.
We certainly have a nest in our box, it is a Great tit and super to see that the birds have been busy during the holidays. We are having trouble with our streaming and can’t always get on after school or during the evenings.
