Week 1 July: Peanut butter Suet

Peanut butter suet for House Sparrows

You will need:

  • Three large spoonful’s of crunchy peanut butter
  • 1 cup of sunflower seeds
  • ½ cup of shelled peanuts or peanut hearts
  • 1 tablespoon of dried mealworms (optional)
  • 2 tablespoons raisins (optional)
  • Water

This recipe requires no lard or gelatin. It also requires no baking.

How to make it!

  • Put the raisins in a small bowl or glass, fill it halfway with water, and let the raisins soak for about a minute. In the meantime, mix the peanut butter, sunflower seeds, and peanuts in a small mixing bowl.
  • Take the raisins out of the water and lay them on a paper towel to dry slightly. They should feel plump and soft now. Add them to the bowl and mix them in.
  • Find a 'mould'. For example: A plastic Whole Foods container. You can use anything as long as it is about the size of a suet cake. Spoon the whole mixture into the mould and sprinkle the optional mealworms on top. Add a bit of water and put them in the freezer for two hours.
  • Place the mixture in bird hangers or place on a bird table. Now wait a short while and the birds will arrive!
